Los Angeles, February 25, 2013 - Raking Light Projects is pleased to announce an installation exhibition by internationally renowned tattoo artist, Jondix. Aeons-Tulpa is the first exhibition produced by Raking Lights Projects and will take place at Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society, founded by American Buddhist teacher and author, Noah Levine. Aeons-Tulpa will be on display over the course of a year with special events and viewings throughout the duration of the exhibition. The opening reception will be held on Saturday April 13, 2013 from 7pm – 10pm.Aeons-Tulpa marks the beginning of Raking Light Projects’ print exhibition series. For the first exhibition, Raking Light Projects invited international tattoo artist, Jondix, to create a print and sculpture installation. Inspired by his extensive travels, Aeons-Tulpa is Jondix’s first solo exhibition of a singular body of work. This show’s visual imagery is a metaphysical exploration of the artist’s interior world; Jondix conceptualizesAeons-Tulpa as both “place” and “state of mind.”

When you go into deep meditation, Vipassana or transcendental, you enter all the hidden parts of your mind. . . your body secretes endogenously produced drugs and you can have visions. When I was creating this series, I put myself in that position—trying to create something that will come to my mind in the future—and serendipitously I found my favorite place. (Jondix, 2013)

The installation configuration, influenced by cosmology, represents Jondix’s metaphysical being. Nine prints are arranged in rows and columns of three to create the shape of a square, with the tenth print displayed off to the side. Central to the installation is the idea of energy and connection, where each of the ten laser-etched prints are not only physically connected by string but also spiritually connected to the artist. The iconography is a confluence of motifs with Jondix’s signature mystical imagery and Eastern-influenced patterning. His visual lexicon borrows from Eastern philosophies and incorporates auspicious symbols, deities and ritualistic objects combined with allusions to personal fantasy and science fiction.

Printmaking Technique
Jondix’s illustrations were originally created with black ink on drafting film. The drawings were scanned, digitally optimized and laser-etched into a brushed gold engraveable substrate. The print process and substrate were selected by Jondix to represent his version of a futuristic woodblock print.Jondix
Jondix is a musician, tattoo and visual artist from Barcelona, Spain. He studied Architecture for 7 years before becoming a full time tattoo artist. Jondix was a student of tattoo artist Tas and apprenticed with Mike the Athens. Jondix describes the deep meanings behind the iconography used in his print designs as inspired by the hard work of traveling and research. He currently travels the world participating in major tattoo conventions.

Noah Levine, author of Dharma Punx, Against the Stream and Heart of the Revolution, founded Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society to make the teachings of the Buddha available to all who are interested. “We wish to create and sustain communities of healthy, accountable, wise and compassionate people from every walk of life.
